Thoughts on Entertainment

I mean in the wake of Micheal Jackson's passing what is there to say other than the fact he started making music in the 60's and my 4-year old brother knows some of his music! ENOUGH SAID, his musically impact is undenaible and I'm not one to dwell on the negative after man hasn't even been buried so mooooooving right along. The tribute situation and BET. For the time they had to do it I guess it's satisfying to some degeree. I just hope as great as he is we don't get super saturated with cheesy tributes and half thought out ideas. And as far as the Chris Brown not getting to perform at the BET Awards in MJ's honor its just a bad break. From a PR stand point it would have helped out CB greatly but you don't want a person that will cause so much scrutiny that they overshadow the tribute. And as far as all this Jay-Z hating about he blocking CB from performing that's crazy. You shouldn't tweet let alone report things like that unless you have iron clad proof. And as far as the D.O.A (Death of Autotune) I have seen on blogs and from other artist and the public about how people are tired of the autotune craze. But just because a lil DJ has another short lived hot summer record (DJ Webstar & Jim Jones) doesen't mean Jay is trying to kill your buzz. I mean it's true rappers are using it as a crutch and it makes it tough to see who has real talent. Well until you hear them live, LMAO! I mean and as far as the stylisitc thing Jay is saying in the song its true, do the skinny jeans if that's you but there is a test if you're doing it overboard: IF IT TAKES YOU LONGER TO PUT YOUR JEANS ON THAN YOUR GIRL, GO AHEAD AND GET SOME REGULAR FITTING JEANS, I PROMISE ITS OK. But good to see Drake is officially on with Young Money and its funny 50 cent is soooo far down rite now he took jabs at Drake since Wayne won't bite. The funny thing is after 50 went hard at Ross and the Boss is still standing 50 doesn't have the hit making potential or the battle skills that he is known for anymore??? Might be time to become a full time actor like the legend LL Cool J should do. Cause 50 may get his wish and Drake & Wayne get at him. It would be funny cause there so big right now Drake & Wayne would probably take him out with Auto Tune verses, lol. And on that note that's all i got for now.

NBA: Get better by any means neccessary

Unless you been under a rock or totally ignoring sport right now you should have noticed teams trying to position themselves for a title run in 2009-2010 season. While the Lakers seem to be having an issue bringing back Trevor Ariza, Cleveland seems to be a frontrunner to get the defensively/athletically gifted swing man. Speaking of the Cavs they have already beefed up the front court with the additon of Shaq and Ariza may seem like that would make them the overwhelming favorite with LeBron, Mo Williams, Ariza, Shaq, as possible starters. The Spurs proved why there the Spurs by getting a good player in Richard Jefferson and quality in the draft with DeJuan Blair in the second round. They will be a huge challenger to my Lakers. But after foolishly dangling Rajon Rondo in a trade and rescinding it Boston is looking to add Rasheed Wallace. Orlando figured they didn't want to pay Hedo Turkgulo what he felt he was worth so they brought in Vince Carter. I like the move because it can help develop Jameer Nelson as the play maker for the offense and the guy responsible for getting D.Howard the ball late in games. (Something the Magic didn't do the entire playoff run w/ Hedo dominating the ball in late situations) Also VC can create off the dribble unlike Courtney Lee and will benefit from being on a good squad so he will be motivated and he's coming to his home state. The Portland Trailblazers are in pursuit of Hedo but I feel they should sign veteran point guard Andre Miller. He can teach the athletically gifted and super talented Jared Bayless thow to run a team and operate in a half court set.( which if more point guards would learn instead of just running the floor in the transition game they would greatly benefit) Hedo is pretty much maxed out in my eyes. He can be a good fit in the right situation but I just seem him as not being able to produce the way we've seen him do the last two seasons. But as far as the Mavs they gotta make some decisions and if you're going to bring J.Kidd back get him a young heir apparent as a backup. JJ Barea is not that! I repeat JJ Barera is not that! I repeat, okay I'm sure you get the point. Detroit picked up scoring machine/clutch performer Ben Gordon and what I say can be a the next Rashard Lewis (when he's on) or the next Tim Thomas (when he's off) but Detroit ain't done and they better hire Avery Johnson as there coach if they wanna get back to being a upper echelon team in the East. I mean even thinking about Doug Collins is bad, he couldn't win with Jordan so who is Rip Hamilton for that matter. But moving along, financial times may be rough but &teams saving up for 2010 but its clear teams wanna get better by ANY MEANS NECCESSARY. The teams that haven't joined in may want to or get passed up! The NBA off season will provide for more excitement through the dead days of summer, an excess of baseball and the time before tranning camp. So stay tuned.

Questionable Decesion Making?

Yeah if you know anything about me you would expect my latest blog posting to be about the newly crowned world champs (will blog about soon though) but instead I wanna discuss the some hot button issues in the world of sports. The names Jeremy Tyler and Bryce Harper will be heavily scrutinized over their controversial decision's. Tyler has decided at the age of 17 to skip his senior year of high school and go to Europe to play for two years and enter the 2011 NBA draft. Harper is a 16 year old high school baseball phenom, will get his G.E.D. and go to junior college in an effort to be eligible for the 2010 draft. In Harper's story is also intriguing due to his appearance as the cover boy on the June issue of Sport Illustrated with the words: Baseballs Chosen One, at the grand old age of 16.That's a lot of pressure on the young man and I know his family sees $$$$$$$$$$$sings. Followed by the decision to try and get in the draft next year and fast track it makes you wonder. Where is the next step to go for young outstanding athletes to go. In my opinion at that young of an age your parents permission is needed for most things so I believe the parents are seeing there meal ticket and cashing it in. Instead of waiting they want it now!!!!As for as Tyler I haven't seen any information about whet er he will or wont get his GED but its a gamble. I personally think neglecting education is wrong. As an African American and the perceptions that our race has been labeled with as far as being dumb and only good as athletes and entertainers its bad that he is not even getting his high school diploma. I think he owes it to his self as well as his family and his race to get at least his high school diploma.Second I believe playing overseas is pro ball but its still not the level of ball played in the states. In college with few players going the European pro ball route, a lot of the talented players that would have gone pro out of high school are in the NCAA and you have good coaches at the elite programs these top flight blue chippers will be going to. If you think I'm wrong about those European Leagues think about how the big stars in those leagues come over here and don't have the immediate impact of a Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, O.J. Mayo, just to name a few. (Don't hesitate to think about some Euro players coming from their league and dominating in this league, feel free to tell me any) The players don't have the strength are the quickness you will see in the NBA so to me its about the money, not getting better as Tyler complained he wasn't doing in high school. If he would have spent a year at Louisville playing that Big East schedule, he would have got better.... Quick. But as far as Harper could it be another example of a baseball prospect getting high singing bonus money, getting moved up to fast in the minors, and never meeting high expectations?? Are will he be moved up to fast or be a solid MLB player but never be "The Chosen One" as proclaimed by SI. Time will only tell. And whats the next step for young athletic prodigies and their parents pursuit of the Almighty $ is is the topic for another day!

Gotta admit when you're wrong.

If u clearly read one of my old blog postings u can see I prediced the Cavs vs. Lakers final.(as did Nike and everywhere else besides Denver & Orlando) I wanted it to measure up the legacies of The King and The Black Mamba like Magic and Bird had. I have to say i didn't see the other 11 Cavs players coming up that SMALL! As a resonable sports fan and a laker fan i didn't buy into that better defense of the nuggets or that they could actually beat LA. But im dissapointed because after seeing all the vitaminwater and nike puppet commercials(which were brillant) I was really really excited about the potential matchup. And for selfish reasons I wanted the Cavs to pull off the comeback because its clear Orlando is better suited to give the Lakers a tougher time(I.E. there 2-0 against LA this season) But nevertheless it will still be a great finals and Kobe's gonna get #4. And untill next year the issue of LeBron vs. Kobe in the finals will have to be brought up again next April and I will put it to rest untill then.

The Vick Situation

Hello internet, I know the NBA playoffs are going on and my Lakers won last night, (YES!!!)I have to discuss Micheal Vick. I am glad to see him reciving the home release and im happy for him. I wish him well but I really have to address the atmosphere around Vick. To me he seems to be headed on the right track so skeptics should lay off the man untill he proves otherwise. And not to beat a dead horse but I know he did wrong but he paid his debt to society and should get a chacne to get a job back in the NFL. As far as PETA and any other type of protesters: You have a right to an opinion and you can protest if you like. But dont go over board. There is a time to prove a point and be passonatie and a time when its too much and I hope they dont cross that line. And despite what you may hear on tv and radio I think some teams may not care about PETA protesting and just want a good player and a chance to win football games. I know his name is getting ran through the mud as far as him being a QB too but he did find a way to win as a mobile QB with not much pocket throwing ability. To me his life will be much more diffrent now: First it was common knowledge that Vick was not a show up early stay late guy, and now we see why. His focus now is his family and getting out of debt, so his best option is playing good on the field and getting a better contract. Also I know as a competitor he still wants to prove he is a QB like he did before he went to prior to prison. And lastley I know that he did wrong and he deserved to be punished but to people who play madden (Vick was the 04 coverman)and the Vick experience commercial, the jersey sells (I even took seniror pictures in a Vick jersey) and the fact he was the Peyton Manning for the black community its been a loooooooooooong fall from grace. I'm rooting for him and hope he uses his second chance well cause there were so many young black children that looked up to him and he let himself and those followers down. But if he can come back and succed at most importantley life and then football, THAT WILL BE THE GREATEST COMEBACK STORY OF ALL TIME!

The Inevetable Finals matchup and What it means.

Well as a fan of greatness I have to applaud LeBron James on the MVP. Personally im ready to see him have a competitive series in the eastern finals with the Magic because the Celtics just dont have enough without KG. As a Laker fan and being near the Houston area I wished to see them play the Rockets. And just as I thought the Rockets will get LA ready and battle tested, one thing besides the presence of Andrew Bynum they lacked last year. With the King and co. having such an easy trip will they face the same fate as the Lakers or step their game up when the reach the finals? Because news flash to fans of the remaining fans of the Magic, Celteics, Hawks, Mavs, Nuggets, and Rockets: THE LAKERS VS. CAVS MATCHUP IN THE FINALS IS INEAVETABLE!!( See the vitamin water commercial) The league wants it, the fans want it, and it will distinguish the two best players since Micheal Jordan from him. Jordan never faced a player at SG/SF in the finals as the same type of skill level & greatness as him. He never faced such tough teams like the 07 Spurs that beat LeBron or the 08 Celtics that beat Kobe. I say that to say this, mark my word: When the history of whos greater comes up it will be painfully obvious to see the league was void of the type of dominant teams to face Jordan, hince the 72-10 season, and Kobe & LeBron should get passes if they win multiple finals in this climate and be looked at like Magic & Bird for making the finals alot and winning more than they lost. It will aslo be pivitol for the legacies of Kobe and Lebron because they are both in their primes. Kobes toward the end of his and the winner, can always claim he is the greater because of head to head match ups, especially if they meet more than once. The MVP LeBron will likeley win more because Kobe got robbed of two and LeBron is more likeable being in Cleveland and stating out losing than Kobe and he had been with a team synonomous with winning. Only time will tell and I will enjoy the playoffs, but cant wait for the legacy driven Finals matchup the NBA has in store for the viewing public!

When will Rappers Learn???

have to disscuss the recent information leaking out about FORMER Grand Hustle(T.I.'s label) rapper Alfamega was a federal informant in 1995 and he got dropped from the label by T.I. for dishonesty. First of all rappers have to learn that you must have an iron clad past, and if u dont come clean whaterver it is and go from there. While I am a fan of Rick Ross, he really got alot of negative attention due to the co pic but he shoulda of confronted it and let it die out. With the solid album out (Deeper Than Rap) and the beef with 50, honesty from the jump and that issue would be dang near dead in the short attention span of todays music consumers and general public. But the co was one thing but documentation of Alfamega being an informant is almost certainly a hip-hop death penalty. ( In a XXL interviem Alfamega said he dosent give out his government name and I see why now.lol!)With T.I. being called a snitch his self with his light sentence, he had no choice but to drop the man. I see the situation as funny but I hope he leanred his lesson and gets back on his feet. And wouldnt you love to see what Shawty Lo has to say about this if he and TIP were still beefing, but with him being dropped it may be free regin to attack him? Whats even funnier is that he had a 110 month sentence before testifying and only 18 months taken off because of his testomniy. Wonder if that 18 months was worth his rapper career, guess if you cant do tha time dont do tha crime, and dont get caught telling either
